Yesterday, when my roommate/best friend and her boyfriend went to go clean up their soon-to-be home that they will be moving into in August, I decided to clean up a bit around the house. I saw that the dog’s water dish was empty so I went to go fill it up and Astro starts jumping around the water dish and I thought it’s because he wanted water but he just kept jumping and going crazy! And then he was trying to sniff something, I went to go check it out and it was a bee! It’s color was graying out so I knew that it was naturally going to die… It worked so hard in it’s life, collecting pollen ever since spring started and it was struggling to fly.
At first, I freaked out because it’s a bee and I’ve never been stung before. Also, I don't have insurance so I can't get treated because I don't have the money. Plus, I'm on DEP, so I have to be real careful but my heart started to soften when I saw it struggling to fly… I was like, “Poor thing~ It can’t defend itself. I must help it!” so I got a tupperwear and I put it inside but I wasn’t sure if I should throw it out the window because it might just not have enough energy to fly. I mean, my window to the ground is like 12 feet? But to a bee, 12 feet is like 2934023849023843 feet. I wasn’t sure if I should put it in the balcony because I’m afraid that my best friend’s boyfriend might go out there and smoke and accidentally step on it…
So I'm running back and forth in my apartment with a bee in a tupperwear, panicing and saying, "What am I going to do?! Where am I going to put you?! What do I do?!" and Astro's just looking at me like I'm on drugs but he's actually following me wherever I go.
And then I got the feeling that I needed to respect the bee a little more. It worked hard in it’s 35-day life, collecting pollen, being a good coworker with all his other beemates and making his Queen happy. So I decided to go out of my apartment and place him under a bush, where he can silently die on his own, with pride and integrity. And I placed him there so no one can step on it and he can just rest there, knowing that he did good in his life.
I saved a bee today.
